HARVEST HOCKEY RULES

National Federation High School Association Rules will be used with the following exceptions:

1.  Grades 5/6 will play 9 vs. 9.

2.  Grades 3/4 will play 7 vs. 7 with no goalie.

3.  Grades 3/4 will play on a smaller field, have no penalty corners and take free hits from outside the scoring area.

4.  Each team will have one 1 minute timeout each game (not each half).

5.  All players must be properly attired with shin guards and mouthpieces.

6.  No jewelry (including metal barrettes) is allowed.

7.  No overtime in regular play.

8.  All forfeited games will be scored as a 3-1 victory for the team that shows for the game.

9.  Tie games in any playoff games will be decided with an overtime period.  The overtime rules will be as follows:

     Grades 5/6 & 7/8

  • There will be one 5 minute sudden victory overtime.  The teams will play 7 vs. 7.        Substitution will be allowed. There will be no timeouts.
  • If the score remains tied after the 5 minute period, there will be a set of  5 'one on ones' between an offensive player and the goalie.  A coin toss will determine which team will go first and then the players will alternate.  The goalie will begin in contact with the goal line.  The offensive player can go anywhere on the 25 yard line.  The referee will blow the whistle to begin.  The offensive player may dribble on the whistle.  The play will last for 10 seconds.  The play is over after 10 seconds when the whistle is blown again to end the play.  A goal is scored when the offensive player scores a legal goal or if the goalie commits a foul.  The play is over if the offensive player fouls.  Play is over if either player hits the ball over the end/side line or if the ball leaves the striking circle.  All spectators and coaches must be outside the 25 yard line.
  • If the score remains tied there will be a series of  sudden victory 'one on ones'.

     Grades 3/4

  • There will be one 5 minute sudden victory overtime period.  The teams will play 7 vs. 7.  Substitution will be allowed.  There will be no timeouts.
  • If the score remains tied after the 5 minute period there will be a shootout.  There will be no goalie in the goal.  Five girls will shoot from each team.  A coin toss will determine which team will be first and then the teams will alternate.  The player will place the ball 7 yards from the goal line.  The player will hit the ball one time.  A goal will be scored if the ball goes over the end line between the goal posts (cones).  If the player swings and misses the ball, she may swing again until the ball is hit once.
  • If the score remains tied there will be another shoot out.
  • 10.  No player can compete for more than one team during the tournament.

10.  No cowbells, air horns or noisemakes of any kind are allowed at any venues during Harvest Hockey. 

11.  IF THERE ARE ANY QUESTIONS CONCERNING RULES, THE REFEREE'S DECISION ON THE FIELD WILL BE THE FINAL RULING.

SCHEDULING AND SCORING

Please check your schedules before leaving for the tournament.  Schedules may change at any time.

  1. All teams should be scheduled for at least three games.

  2. Points will be awarded after each game, 5 points for a win, 2 points for a tie and 0 points for a loss.
  3. In the event of inclement weather and cancellation of games. Each canceled game will be scored as a 4-2 WIN for BOTH teams. No attempts will be made to reschedule canceled games.
  4. Division ties will be broken in the following manner:
    1. Head to head play
    2. Most wins
    3. Fewest goals allowed
    4. Total point differential in first three games (not to exceed +3 or –3 in any game)
    5. Coin toss (team coming second in alphabet will call the toss)
  5. All ties in playoff games will be decided immediately by a sudden victory period.

Scorecards will be held by the referees for each game. At the end of the game the ref will record the official score and sign it. The scorecards will be turned in at the registration table at each field. All point totals will be posted at the registration tent at Garrison Forest School during the course of the day.

Each team should be prepared to provide a roster and  for players if requested. Each team should be prepared to provide a complete roster with all players at any time. This roster will include name, jersey number, phone, complete address, grade and date of birth. It should be identical to the roster submitted to STX Harvest Hockey administration upon entry into the tournament.
